Crunchyroll Streams Ultraman Geed TV Series

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Series premiered in Japan on Saturday with 1-hour special

Crunchyroll announced on Friday that it is streaming Ultraman Geed (pronounced "Jeed"), Tsuburaya Productions' new Ultraman series. Crunchyroll launched the series on Friday at 9:30 p.m. EDT with the show's "episode 0" and first episode. Crunchyroll didn't specify the territories where the show is available.

The series premiered on TV Tokyo and its affiliates on Saturday, and it will have 25 episodes.

16-year-old actor Tatsuomi Hamada is playing Riku Asakura, who can transform into the titular Ultraman Geed. The character is the son of Belial, the enemy of franchise character Ultraman Zero. Hamada also appeared in the 2010 film Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial. Hamada is the youngest lead actor in the franchise's history.

Kōichi Sakamoto (009-1: The End of the Beginning, Kamen Rider Ghost) is directing the show, and Otsuichi (Calling You, Goth, Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror) is in charge of series composition.

Ultraman production company Tsuburaya Productions filed for a trademark for "Ultraman Geed" in Japan on February 13.

The most recent Ultraman series, Ultraman Orb, premiered last July, and ended in December. The Gekijōban Ultraman Orb - Kizuna no Chikara Okari Shimasu (Ultraman Orb the Movie - I'll Borrow the Power of Bonds) film opened in theaters in Japan on March 11.
