American anime convention Otakon announced on Tuesday that the convention will host the band Yousei Teikoku as part of the convention's Anisong World Matsuri music festival event.
Yousei Teikoku, whose name means "Fairy Empire," formed in 1997. The group's style combines a gothic lolita fashion with a sound inspired from both classical and heavy metal music. The band has performed theme songs for various anime including the opening themes for Big Order, Future Diary, Innocent Venus, and Qwaser of Stigmata, and the ending themes for Venus Versus Virus, Katanagatari, Tokyo ESP, and Garo the Animation, among others.
Anisong World Matsuri will include concerts on Friday and Saturday, as well as other events held throughout the weekend of Otakon. The festival event debuted in America at Los Angeles' Anime Expo 2016 as a collaboration between Lantis, Sony Music Entertainment Japan Inc., Amuse, Bandai Visual, Bandai Namco Live Creative, and Anime Consortium Japan. The event at Otakon will mark its East Coast debut.
Rock bands JAM Project, Flow, and singer T.M. Revolution will also perform as part of the event.
Otakon 2017 will take place from August 11-13 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. This will be the 24th convention, and the first year the convention is being held in D.C.; Baltimore has hosted the convention for the past 17 years.
