You Are Umasou's Tyrannosaurus Children's Books Get New Anime Film

Hello, Tyranno to open in 2018 as Japanese/Korean/Chinese production

Entertainment news magazine Variety reported on Sunday that Tatsuya Miyanishi's Tyrannosaurus series of children books is inspiring a new anime film, which will be titled Hello, Tyranno in South Korea. Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan films 15-20) is directing the film at Tezuka Productions.

Korean company Media Castle, Korea Investment Partners, and Beijing Resolution will finance the film.

Variety describes the film: "Hello, Tyranno sees the adventure and love story between a male tyrannosaurus that looks aggressive but does not make a kill and a female pteranodon."

The film will open in South Korea in 2018.

Media Castle is notable in South Korea for acquiring the rights to Makoto Shinkai films such as 5 Centimeters Per Second and his most recent your name. film. The latter screened in the Busan International Film Festival this weekend, and will open in South Korea in January.

Since Miyanishi began the Tyrannosaurus book series in 2003, it has two million copies in print. The books inspired the 2010 film You Are Umasou (pictured right), which earned the top first-day audience satisfication rating from the Pia service, as well as a high 4.22 rating from Yahoo! Movies Japan reviews. The second film, Anata o Zutto Aishiteru, opened in Japan on June 6, 2015. The books also inspired a Miyanishi Tatsuya Gekijō: Omae Umasou da na, series of television anime shorts in 2010.
