Media distribution service Crunchyroll announced on Thursday that it will serialize artist Mugi Tanaka's original webcomic PARK Harajuku: Crisis Team! on May 28. Crunchyroll will publish new pages of the webcomic every week, along with additional art, character biographies, and other bonus materials.
Crunchyroll describes the webcomic's story:
Several years from now, the great cities of the world will be destroyed by creatures from another planet. Their next target is…Tokyo's famed Harajuku district! Only a trio of treasure-seeking shop girls can hope to save the day. But first, do they have what it takes to become members of the PARK Harajuku: Crisis Team?
The webcomic features characters that Tanaka designed as mascot characters for the PARK Harajuku retail store. PARK Harajuku, Tanaka, and Crunchyroll News and Otaku USA magazine editor-in-chief Patrick Macias collaborated to create the webcomic's story. Crunchyroll also unveiled visuals for the webcomic's main characters Rito, Mari, and Kotoko:
Crunchyroll's webstore also began selling PARK Harajuku goods in conjunction with the announcement. The goods include t-shirts with the characters from the PARK Harajuku: Crisis Team! webcomic, clear folders, postcards, buttons, stickers, and the first issue of PARK Harajuku's original magazine CO;RYU.
Crunchyroll launched its "Crunchyroll Originals" line for original content made in collaboration with Japanese creators. It debuted Hiroyuki Takahashi's full-color webcomic HYPERSONIC music club on January 30 as part of this line.
