Bulbasaur Planter Sales Halted for Copyright Infringement

3D printer design sharing website Shapeways received a cease and desist from Pokémon International on Friday regarding artist Claudia Ng's design for a ceramic planter resembling the Pokémon Bulbasaur. The planter was on sale on the website, but Shapeways removed the listing after receiving the order. According to Ng, Pokémon International is "asking for all the money associated with this model."
The original listing did not directly label the design as a Pokémon—Ng listed it as a "succulent monster"—but included references to the franchise. The most recent version of the design, approximately two and a half inches (six and a half centimeters) tall, was available in several colors for US$49.
The 3D printer data for the original version is still available for free download.
