Blockbuster to Shut Last U.S. Video Rental Stores, DVD-by-Mail
posted on by Egan Loo
The video rental chain Blockbuster announced on Wednesday that it will shut its remaining 300 physical stores in the United States by early January. It will also discontinue its DVD-by-mail service by mid-December.
Dish Network, the current owner of Blockbuster, will retain the Blockbuster brand for its Dish satellite services. It also still has its streaming service Blockbuster On Demand.
Dish began waves of Blockbuster store closures throughout the United States in 2011, shortly after it bought the chain out of bankruptcy.
