Wolf Children's Mamoru Hosoda to Visit Australia in April
posted on by Jon Hayward
Mamoru Hosoda is a Japanese film director that started work as a key animator on Crying Freeman, Sailor Moon and Slam Dunk, however he soon moved onto directing anime films with the first two Digimon Adventure movies followed by the sixth One Piece movie. However you will most likely know Hosoda from his work directing Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and most recently Wolf Children.
Wolf Children (Ōkami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki) tells the story of a 19 year-old college student named Hana who falls in "fairy tale-like" love with a "wolf man." After marrying the wolf man, Hana gives birth to two Wolf Children, older sister Yuki ("snow") who was born on a snowy day and younger brother Ame ("rain") who was born on a rainy day, but when Hana's husband suddenly dies she decides to move to a rural town. Wolf Children was produced by new studio "Studio Chizu" established by Hosoda specifically for the production of the film. The film was co-produced by Studio Madhouse. Hosoda is credited as the creator, screenwriter and director with Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (character designer on Neon Genesis Evangelion, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, FLCL, Summer Wars) as character designer.
Currently Mamoru Hosoda will be making appearances alongside Studio Chizu producter, Yuchiro Saito in Melbourne and Sydney with a small talk and a question and answer session about Wolf Children followed by a screening of the film. He will be then attending Gold Coast Supanova in Queensland to meet with fans followed by a screening in the evening as part of the GCFF. Details are as follows;
