Macross/Escaflowne's Kawamori Unveils The Fool Project (Update 2)
posted on by Egan Loo
Anime creator Shōji Kawamori (Macross, Escaflowne, Aquarion) revealed The Fool "multi-dimensional" project at Tokyo International Anime Fair on Thursday. For the "new live entertainment" initiative's first work Nobuanga the Fool, popular artist Yone Kazuki (Hakuōki, Hiiro no Kakera - The Tamayori Princess Saga) is designing the characters, and Ryō Yoshimata is scoring the music after working on the live-action television period dramas Gō: Himetachi no Sengoku and Atsuhime.
The "historical science-fiction" story of Nobuanga the Fool is set in a parallel world inspired by Japan's sengoku (warring states) period with mountain castles.
Kawamori explained that he was inspired by trips to Broadway and Las Vegas to create live entertainment for his next project. He pointed to the in-anime concerts in Macross Frontier, which combined performers with visual imagery and other forms of media, as an example of what he wants to accomplish, and he noted his collaboration with the idol group AKB48 as another example. He cited Leonardo Da Vinci as an inspiration for his many ideas, some of which never came to fruition. He has been working on The Fool project for two and a half years.

Update: Production company Satelight confirmed with ANN that, despite the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper's Mantan Web report that this project will have both anime and live performance works, a traditional anime work is not currently planned.
