Kurogane Kendo Manga Ends in Shonen Jump in Japan

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Manga about hapless boy who joins swordfighting club debuted in 2011

The final chapter of Haruto Ikezawa's debut manga series Kurogane is running in this year's ninth issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on Monday. The manga's eighth and final volume will hit store shelves in Japan on April 4, and Shonen Jump asks people to look forward to Ikezawa's next work.

Ikezawa's manga series debuted in 2011 (after a one-shot version ran earlier in the year), and Shonen Jump posted the first chapter in English on its website. The publisher describes the story:

Kurogane is a guy with no athletic ability whatsoever. When Tsubame, the girl who sits next to him in class, invites him to join the kendo club, he naturally turns her down. But then, on the way home from cram school, he's attacked by the ghost of a mysterious swordswoman! A story about careening youth and kendo begins here!!

The series received four "Vomic" (voice+comic) audio/manga episodes starring Takuya Eguchi as Hiroto Kurogane, Hitomi Nabatame as Sayuri, and Minako Kotobuki as Tsubame. The episodes can be watched for free at the official Vomic website.
