The January 2013 issue of Shueisha's V Jump magazine announced on November 21 that the Dragon Quest X Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online game will spawn its own manga series in the following issue on December 21. Yuuki Nakashima (Kirihōshi, Elementhunters, Digimon Xros Wars) is drawing Dragon Quest: Sōten no Sōra based on Square Enix's massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) for the Nintendo Wii (and Wii U). The game's general director Yuji Horii is supervising the manga.
Several Dragon Quest manga have been created over the game franchise's history. Shonen Jump ran Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken by Kôji Inada (Beet the Vandel Buster) and Riku Sanjō (Beet the Vandel Buster, Digimon Xros Wars, M.D. Geist) for seven years. Other series include Dragon Quest Saga: Emblem of Roto, Emblem of Roto: To the Children who inherit the Emblem-, Emblem of Roto Returns, and Dragon Quest: Warriors of Eden — all by Kamui Fujiwara (Seirei no Moribito).
Dragon Quest X shipped in Japan on August 2 and has about 400,000 subscribers as of November 6.
