Rie Kugimiya Voices Pikachu in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Anime Short
posted on by Egan Loo
Voice actress Rie Kugimiya gives Pikachu a speaking voice in three promotional videos that Nintendo posted on Friday for the Pokémon Fushigi no Dungeon: Magnagate to Mugendai Meikyū (Pokémon: Mystery Dungeon: Magnagates and the Infinite Labyrinth) game. OLM, the studio behind the Pokémon anime franchise, animated the special short movie in the videos.
Ikue Ohtani, not Kugimiya, has been uttering "Pi-ka-chu" for the character in the main Pokémon anime since the beginning in 1997.
In the game, the player turns into a Pokémon as if in some sort of dream. The player then partners with other Pokémon to explore the world. The game features such Pokémon as Axew (Kibago), Oshawott (Mijumaru), Tepig (Pokabu), Snivy (Tsutaaja), and Umbreon (Blacky). Ami Koshimizu plays Oshawott and Kōsuke Toriumi plays Umbreon.
The game will use augmented reality technology to allow players scan objects in the real world that will then become "magnagates" that will open up new dungeons to explore within the game.
The latest in Nintendo's series of Pokémon-themed dungeon crawlers will arrive on the Nintendo 3DS on November 23.
