The Friday schedule for San Diego Comic Con notes that the North American graphic novel publisher Archaia will be publishing a new Cyborg 009 graphic novel. According to the listing, the new novel "reimagines" Shōtarō Ishinomori's classic science fiction manga Cyborg 009 (pictured at right) "from a modern, Western aesthetic."

Marcus To (Red Robin, The Huntress) will draw the artwork for the graphic novel, and FJ DeSanto (Immortals: Gods and Heroes) and Brad Cramp (Invertigo) will be writing the story.

The listings also note that the new graphic novel is part of a "new resurgence of the original Cyborg 009 material" that includes the upcoming 009 Re:Cyborg 3D-animated film from director Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East) that will open in more than five Asian regions simultaneously, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea. The film distributor T-Joy will release the film in Japan on October 27.

In the original manga, the secret Black Ghost organization transforms nine unsuspecting humans into cyborgs. However, the nine cyborgs turn on their masters and protect the rest of humanity from Black Ghost's plans for world war.
