Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs Game Still Looking for Publisher

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

In an interview with Silicon Era's Ishaan, managing director Chris Strauß discussed the future of the proposed Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs video game adaptation, which is still seeking a publisher.

The game was originally announced September 2010 and planned for release in 2011. The German studio Firehazard is still searching for a publisher to release their multi-platform adaptation of the 1987 anime series.

Initial gameplay was shown at E3 in 2011 as well as screenshots for a scrapped Gameboy Advance and DS game. While that version was abandoned, the latest version is managed by one engine that allows for multiple system support, including the Nintendo 3DS and Apple iPhone.

Strauß also revealed that while the game is an on-rails shooter, it features three types of game play including vehicle stages similar to Starfox 64 and end boss battles in giant robots from the original series. Gameplay includes three characters: Saber Rider, Fireball, and Colt. The original German voice cast is returning to voice the game, but Strauß is relying on fan feedback as to whether the English voice cast would boost the game's desirability. Strauß does plan to approach voice actor Peter Cullen to reprise his role.
