Comic Shop Responds About Its 'Buy American' Ad

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

"A Comic Shop," a retailer in Florida, responded on Tuesday that the content of its "Buy American" ad is a joke not intended to criticize manga reading. The ad offers one #1 comic from DC Comics' The New 52 line to anyone who trades in the first volume of any manga.

A Comic Shop's owner is planning to sell the traded manga for US$1 each. He also stated that he is "not at all anti-manga or a super patriot," and he has hosted various "anime events" at the shop. The owner also revealed that the "Robama" idea was inspired by the Steampunk Palin comic, which depicts U.S. President Barack Obama as a cyborg.

DC Comics funded 75% of the ad through a co-op advertising campaign. The ad's background image appears on the cover of the Justice League #5 comic.
