Sakura Wars Shōjo Manga Gets Full Series Run
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The first 2012 issue of Hakusensha's Hana to Yume shōjo magazine is announcing on Monday that the Sakura Taisen: Kanadegumi (Sakura Wars: Performing Division) manga will launch as a regular series in the magazine's February 3 issue. The second part of the original Sakura Taisen: Kanadegumi two-part manga also appears in Monday's issue of Hana to Yume after the 86-page first part launched in the magazine on November 19.
Sakura Taisen: Kanadegumi follows a girl named Neko Miyabi and her relationships with five young men. The story takes place in Tokyo and centers on an imperial opera company named Kanadegumi.
Chie Shimada has been drawing Sakura Taisen: Kanadegumi based on the concepts of "Team Kanade." The two-part manga project was revealed in a surprise announcement at the "Sakura Wars: Budōkan Live 2" event on October 7.
Since its debut 15 years ago, Sakura Wars has been a dating simulation/tactical role-playing game franchise aimed primarily at male gamers. The previous entries in the franchise followed the alternate-history adventures of several all-female mechanized task forces — that also perform musicals to maintain their top secret cover. Sakura Taisen: Kanadegumi is the first Sakura Wars manga targeted at girls.
