Tarō Nogizaka & Akira Nagai's story of maverick surgeon spawned 3 TV dramas

After 210 installments, Tarō Nogizaka will end his Iryū - Team Medical Dragon manga in this year's fourth issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Superior magazine on January 28. The announcement was made in the third issue, which is shipping on Friday. The story follows Ryūtarō Asada, a genius surgeon regarded as a renegade in the eyes of other Japanese doctors because of his methods.

The manga launched in the same magazine in April of 2002 with an original concept by Akira Nagai, who is a real doctor and medical journalist. In addition, Mie Yoshinuma consulted as a medical supervisor. As of the 24th book volume, the manga has over 10 million copies in print.

Kenji Sakaguchi (Ikebukuro West Gate Park) starred in the first live-action television series based on the manga in 2006, and it averaged 14.8% in ratings with a peak of 17.2%. The second television series aired in 2007, and it averaged 17.2% and reached as high as 21.0%. Iryū - Team Medical Dragon 3 aired from October to December of last year.
