The North American anime distributor Funimation and the newly established distributor Asian Media Rights (AMR) have announced a partnership under which AMR will provide some of Funimation's feature films on cable and satellite video-on-demand (VOD) systems. Funimation has confirmed this information with ANN but says that it is still working out the dates and providers for the films.
Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance (Evangelion Shin Gekijōban: Ha) will be among the first titles made available on demand. The film will be available on VOD prior to the film's DVD and Blu-ray Disc release, which is currently scheduled for March 29. Summer Wars will also be among the films made available, along with live-action titles from Funimation's Sushi Typhoon line such as Alien vs. Ninja and Mutant Girls Squad. Over 20 films will be made available in this fashion.
Asian Media Rights launched its VOD brand, Asian Crush, this past December. The company was founded by Michael Hong and David Chu, former CEO and Senior Vice President, respectively, of ImaginAsian TV. The company had previously announced that it will provide both the live-action and animated adaptations of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, as well as various Gundam films and the live-action adaptation of Kengo Hanazawa's raunchy comedy manga Boys on the Run.
