The Japanese book publisher Kodansha has announced the nominees that have passed the first cut for the 4th "Morning International Comic Competition" (MICC), as presented by the Weekly Morning anthology in Japan. 22 nominees made it past the first round, including three nominees each from both Korea and China; two nominees each from Malaysia, Taiwan, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States; and one nominee each from Poland, Singapore, Chile, Israel, Brazil, and Canada. The full list of nominees can be found on the MICC's website.
The finalists for the competition will be announced in June. Huang Chun-chan's "Poor Knight" won last year's competition, which was then known as the "Morning International Manga Competition" or M.I.M.C.
In the separate development, Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched the 4th International Manga Award competition. The award's executive committee is accepting submissions from any country from April 5 to May 31.
A total of 303 entries were submitted from 55 countries in the 3rd International Manga Award competition last year. Jakraphan Huaypetch (a.k.a. Ton Huaypetch) won last year's competition with the basketball story "Super Dunker."
