Gintama Anime to Continue for Fourth Year (Updated)
posted on by Egan Loo
The sponsor credits screen for episode 145 of the Gintama anime series has announced on Thursday evening that production on a fourth year has been green-lit. The message also offered an apology with the announcement. The current director, Yōichi Fujita, had indicated in the February issue of Tokuma Shoten's Animage magazine last month that he will not be working on the series this spring.
The Gintama action comedy follows a quirky samurai in an alternate-history Japan, where aliens overlords have banned sword-carrying. While the Gintama anime's storyline has been gradually catching up with the storyline of Hideaki Sorachi's original manga, the animation studio Sunrise had not officially announced until now if the anime would end. Viz Media published the 10th volume of the manga last month, which is also when the Crunchyroll website began streaming the anime episodes the same day they aired in Japan.
