Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: Director Mamoru Oshii unveiled his stage play adaptation of Mitsuteru Yokoyama's Tetsujin 28 classic manga and anime, including the 500-kilogram replica (1,100 pounds) of the title robot, in a special preview rehearsal on Friday. The stage play version of the robot (which is known as Gigantor in its English adaptation) stands about six meters (20 feet) tall and can stand on its own for the story's climax. (The Mainichi Shimbun paper's Mantan Web site posted a photo of the robot onstage.)
Mamoru Oshii is best known for directing such anime as Ghost in the Shell and Mobile Police Patlabor, but he also directed Avalon and other live-action projects. Tetsujin 28 is the first time Oshii directed and wrote a stage play. The play runs in Tokyo from January 10 to 25 and then in Osaka from February 5 to 8.
