Mach Go Go Go Gets Mach Girl TV Anime Shorts in Japan
posted on by Egan Loo
The veteran anime studio Tatsunoko Production has revealed the Mach Girl spinoff television series based on Mach Go Go Go, its classic anime series that is better known outside Japan as Speed Racer. Suzuka Yoshida (Vampiyan Kids, Yobarete Tobidete Akubi-chan) designed the characters including Mach Girl herself: a girl named Lip who wanders the land to compete in high-stakes races with her Mach Pink three-wheeler. Tatsunoko is streaming first 3-minute episode of the series: "Muteki no Racer: Sono na wa Lip" (The Unbeatable Racer: Her Name is Lip).
Director Masatsugu Arakawa (Nurse Witch Komugi special, Medarot Damashii/Medabots season 2, Vampiyan Kids) is working with series script supervisor Takashi Yamada (Ojamajo Doremi, Onegai My Melody Kirara) and the animators at Studio Rong on the project. (Mach Girl is separate from the Speed Racer: The Next Generation series that Animation Collective produced in America this year.) The cast includes Marika Matsumoto (Fafner's Maya, Paradise Kiss' Miwako) as Lip, Yūji Ueda as Nuts, Shōzō Iizuka as "Jean Wayne," and Hozumi Gōda as the narrator. The Cartoon Network in Japan will premiere the series this month.
