Russian Anime Companies' Planned Merger Collapses
posted on by Mikhail Koulikov
Russian anime licensing and distribution company Reanimedia has announced that its plans to acquire XL Media, another leading anime distributor in the Eastern European market, have been cancelled due to "irreconcilable differences" between the firms. Plans to combine the two were first made public last year, but since then, XL Media has been acquired by an unnamed third party. That buyer has expressed plans to relaunch the anime titles that XL has licensed for distribution in Russia, such as Serial Experiments Lain and Wolf's Rain.
XL Media employees who officially joined Reanimedia after plans for their company's acquisition were made public will continue working for their new employer. None of Reanimedia's current or upcoming releases, which include Pet Shop of Horrors, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Gunbuster 2, will be affected by this development.
