Japanese Comic Ranking, June 26–July 16
posted on by Egan Loo
The first Neon Genesis Evangelion volume in over a year topped the comic ranking chart again during the week of June 26–July 2. In a rare distinction, that volume 11 of Evangelion has stayed on the comic chart for four straight weeks and counting. Nodame Cantabile followed Evangelion at #2 for a second week.
The pirate crew of One Piece and the gridiron team of Eyeshield 21 replaced Evangelion and Nodame Cantabile on top for the week of July 3–July 9. The two Weekly Shonen Jump titles repeat their one-two positions this past week as well. Mamoru Nagano's second design book for his Five Star Stories baroque robot manga marks one of the few times that an artbook has appeared on the comic ranking chart.
The last three weeks marked the well-publicized end for two manga, and that helped propel both to the top ten. Rozen Maiden ends its compilation run with Gentosha after a falling out between the Peach-Pit creators and their Birz editors, while the ballyhooed Blue Dragon RalΩGrado tie-in manga for the Xbox 360 role-playing game ended its serialization just last week. (Only half of Blue Dragon RalΩGrado's serialized installments have been compiled in the two volumes published so far.) Meanwhile, the debut volume of eensy-weensy Monster from Kare Kano's Masami Tsuda is off to a good start.
