A pair of contemporary art sales in New York City pull in $145.5 million, and include anime-inspired work by Takashi Murakami.

Starting Tuesday night, and continuing until late Thursday, Sotheby's and Christie's Auction Houses sold various pieces of contemporary artwork. Historically, contemporary art has been overshadowed by Modernist and Impressionist works of art. Recently, however, Contemporary art (artwork produced after 1945) has become a hot item in the elite auction houses.
Over the course of 4 days, Sotheby's and Christie's $145.5 million worth of contemporary artwork. Of interest to anime fans is Takashi Murakami's anime-inspired "Miss Ko2", a 6-foot-tall painted fiberglass model that sold for $567,500.
