Correction, 4 of 4 films at the Waterloo Festival for Animated Cinema are Anime.

We previously stated that two out of three films for the Waterloo Festival for Animated Cinema were Anime. We have since found out that all three films, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, Spirited Away and A Tree of Palme are Anime (we did not know at the time that A Tree of Palme was Anime). In addition, the festival has confirmed another film, Spriggan; bringing the total to four films, all Anime.

With their schedule finalized and all their movies Anime, we asked them if the festival itself was purely an Anime Festival.

Joseph Chen, a representative of the festival, responded, "The WFAC does not have a mandate to show only anime movies. We aim to show that animation is a legitimate art style for producing mature, adult movies. However, since Japan is so much further along the road in terms of using animation for those means, and because its animation industry is commercially viable, we expect a majority of our programmes in the future to be anime. In our two years of existence, all of our movies have been anime."

Their Final Schedule is as follows:

NOV 6 · 18:00 · Spriggan (Japanese language/English subtitled)
NOV 6 · 21:30 · Spirited Away (Japanese language/English subtitled)
NOV 7 · 19:00 · Tree of Palme (Japanese language/English subtitled)
NOV 7 · 21:30 · Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door (Format is TBA)

More details about the festival, tickets and the films is available on their website at www.wfac.ca.
