"Fist of the North Star Manga Fragments: Dying Like A Man" is part of Media Do's "Manga Fragments" NFT project, which, according to the product's website, "aim to take the unique advantages of the digital world and use them to create a new expression for individual manga panels".
For the first phase of "Dying Like A Man", memorable manga scenes of six popular Nanto Rokusei Ken characters are adapted into 38 unique Manga Fragments. A total of 77 copies of each Fragment are then randomly divided into and sold as packs of seven fragments each, with each pack costing 4,910 yen (around 43 USD).
The project's website further explains that the idea behind "Manga Fragments" is to preserve manga scenes as mementos: "By capturing the most important story moments into Manga Fragments, the joy of manga can be kept as a memento and spread to fans across the globe"
The practice of selling "fragmented" images cut from manga panels as NFTs seems to be gaining traction. A similar NFT project titled "Fragments of Tezuka Osamu" has recently been announced by Tezuka Productions, whereby a mosaic made up of 'fragments' cut from the Astro Boy manga will be sold in an auction.
