Baseball Manga Major Protagonist Becomes WorldTryout Ambassador

posted on by Kim Morrissy

Goro Shigeno, protagonist of Takuya Mitsuda's classic baseball manga Major, has become the official ambassador of the WorldTryout baseball competition for 2019.

The WorldTryout is a crowdfunded competition that allows former professional baseball players to compete alongside amateur or independent players. The English website describes it as "a project that cheering from the supporters directly lead the players to the challenge for their next career." Goro is a resilient character who overcomes numerous obstacles throughout the manga, and WorldTryout's official Japanese website describes him as a character who encompasses the spirit of the competition.

Manga creator Takuya Mitsuda commented: "Please jump into the world through the sport of baseball. Your chance won't just be in Japan. There are plenty of opportunities throughout the world. Your power will be needed in the world. When you've 'burned out' in the truest sense, it's time for your second chance. Focus on the WorldTryout in front of you and seize that chance into the world. I think that the WorldTryout is a door that connects you to the world. Please give it your all."

Preliminary tryouts for the WorldTryout will be held on November 7, and the main tryouts will be held on November 30. Sample booklets for the Major manga and sequel series Major 2nd will be distributed at the main tryouts.
