On May 17, Cup Noodle launched an animated ad for its "Hungry Days" campaign teasing The One Piece characters in school uniforms, leaving fans "hungry" for more. On Tuesday, Cup Noodle followed this up with a 30-second commercial focusing on Roronoa Zoro's high school days in the kendo club.
Zoro's high school days are brought to life with lush animation. Other iconic One Piece characters are also shown making cameo appearances in the video, including Luffy at the end.
The ad credits manga artist Eisaku Kubonouchi (Chocolat, Carole & Tuesday) in the video description. Kubonouchi also redesigned Studio Ghibli's Kiki, the titular Heidi, Girl of the Alps, and Sazae-san in previous Cup Noodle ads.
In 2017, Cup Noodle launched its "Hungry Days" ad campaign, a series of commercials that starred famous anime characters at the precipice of their youth to invoke a specific, nostalgic feeling. The previous "Hungry Days" campaign concluded with a romantic confession against an apocalyptic backdrop. The advertisement campaign had three exhibition showings in 2017 where exclusive merchandise was sold. Two of the exhibitions were in Japan while another was in Taiwan.
