The Straw Hat Crew Try High School in New 'Hungry Days' Cup Noodle Ad
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
In 2017, Cup Noodle launched its "Hungry Days" ad campaign, a series of commercials that starred famous anime characters at the precipice of their youth to invoke a specific, nostalgic feeling. Manga artist Eisaku Kubonouchi (Chocolat, Carole & Tuesday) redesigned Studio Ghibli's Kiki, the titular Heidi, Girl of the Alps, and Sazae-san. The previous ads starred classic heroines but the instant ramen company looked to the popular manga and anime series One Piece for its latest ad.

The Twitter post says "Aoharu, Futatabi" or "Blue spring, again" where as "blue spring" refers to a specific, youthful melancholy. Cup Noodle hasn't opened a site for the campaign yet, (its still running its Kizuna Ai campaign) so details are scarce. Since the ad appeared on Twitter, fans have watched the video nearly 1 million times.
The previous "Hungry Days" campaign concluded with a romantic confession against an apocalyptic backdrop. The advertisement campaign had three exhibition showings in 2017 where exclusive merchandise was sold. Two of the exhibitions were in Japan while another was in Taiwan.
