Voice Actor Mamoru Miyano Becomes Presenter on Morning TV Program

posted on by Kim Morrissy

Voice actor Mamoru Miyano, who is best known for his roles as Rintaro Okabe (Steins;Gate), Light Yagami (Death Note), and Tamaki Suou (Ouran High School Host Club), became the "monthly entertainment presenter" in the morning Japanese television show Mezamashi Terebi (lit. "Wake Up TV"). The program airs on Monday to Fridays at 4:55 am. Miyano's first appearance in the program was on December 4, and he will appear on Tuesdays this month.

The "monthly entertainment presenter" segment first began earlier in June. Each month, a different presenter acts as a talk show host and narrator; previous presenters included dancer Alan Shirahama, Golden Bomber bass guitarist Jun Utahiroba, and singer-songwriter Yu Takahashi.

Miyano commented on his new role: "I was surprised because it didn't even occur to me that I'd ever be asked to do this. I'm so grateful for the opportunity, so I'm fired up to put on a performance that viewers can describe as 'Miyano-like'! I hope that I can properly wake viewers up and make them ready to take on the day!"

During his TV appearance, Miyano described himself as "the voice actor Mamoru Miyano. I'm going to do my best to use my voice like a voice actor!" He was also shown to be able to sing, dance, and act on stage. During the segment, he performed a live reading of his Uta no Prince Sama character Tokiya Ichinose.

Miyano's fans appear to be satisfied with his role in the program so far. The hashtag #Mezamashiterebi started trending the day of Miyano's first appearance, along with Miyano's name and the affection moniker "Mamo-chan." Fans have been posting supportive messages such as "I can't wait for the next show!" and "Even my parents have become fans of Mamoru Miyano because of this!"

Miyano's next appearance on the program is scheduled to be on December 11.
