Yamaha Launches Manga Campaign to Showcase Japan's Motorcycles, Saunas
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Yamaha Motor Company recently launched a manga-themed promotion that features a fictional manga magazine titled "Totonotta Magazine." The first wave of the promotion features three manga inspired by motorcycles, saunas, and sauna food.
The first wave of manga are "Sado -Genshi no Kaze no Maki" by Katsuki Tanaka (Gyakkō no Koro, Baka Drill), "Sauna Mettler" by Masashi Asaki and Tadashi Agi (Psychometrer, Kunimitsu no Matsuri), and "Amano Ansa no Sauna Meshi!!" by Mimana Orimoto (Bakuon!!, Mahou Shoujo Neko X).
In relation to saunas, the verb "totonou" refers to alternating between a sauna room, cold bath, and air bath as a set. In addition to being deeply relaxing, the activity can improve people's circulation. The characters in each manga visit real saunas in Japan, have the "totonou" experience, and also enjoy special sauna food.
The "Kaneda Sauna no Jikenbo" manga by Fumiya Sato and Agi (Kindaichi Case Files, Tantei Gakuen Q) will debut on the promotion website on October 17, followed by "Koyama Ken no Ofuro Tsūshin" by Ken Koyama on October 19, and "Amano Ansa no Sauna Meshi!! -Sendai-hen-" by Orimoto on October 29.
Orimoto launched his Bakuon!! motorcycle manga in 2011, and the series inspired two spinoffs this past spring.
