Voice Actors: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is a 'Success Story'
posted on by Kim Morrissy
The main voice actors of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime spoke about their roles in the anime at the advance screening of episodes 1 and 2. The show was attended by Miho Okasaki (shown right, who plays Rimuru), Yumiri Hanamori (Shizu), Makoto Furukawa (Benimaru), M.A.O (Shion), and Takuya Eguchi (Sōei).
After the episode screening, the voice actors came on stage to discuss the interesting aspects of the anime. Furukawa described That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime as a “success story” because it's a story about Rimuru, who gets stronger through meeting lots of people and making friends. .
For the voice actors, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is particularly notable because the protagonist has two very distinct voices that are played by different actors. It was revealed at the stage show that Takuma Terashima plays the character when he is a salaryman named Satoru Mikami. When the character dies and is reincarnated as a slime named Rimuru, Miho Okasaki takes over the role.
Rimuru is Okasaki's first major anime role, but according to her fellow cast members, you wouldn't think it from how enthusiastically she took charge at the recording sessions. Takuya Eguchi described the atmosphere of the recordings as “Okasaki's world.” Juggling all of the different aspects of Rimuru's identity would have posed a challenge for the young voice actor, but Furukawa praised her performance, describing it as “incredibly entertaining.”
Another interesting aspect that the voice actors point out is that none of their characters actually appeared in the first two episodes shown at the advance screening, including the heroine Shizu. Although they spoke briefly about the characters they play, they are looking forward to seeing how their roles unfold as the anime progresses. Shizu in particular is a strong heroine whose role is shrouded in mystery.
After the talk show, the vocalist TRUE came on stage to sing the full version of the anime ending theme song "Another colony" for the first time. She said that she was aiming to depict “strength that will never lose to anyone” through the song.
The event concluded with all of the voice actors reiterating their excitement to be working on the anime and their hopes that the audience will enjoy it.
The anime premiered on Tokyo MX and BS11 on October 1 at 24:00. Crunchyroll is streaming the series, while FUNimation Entertainment will stream an English dub.
