Evangelion TV Anime's Opening Song Gets HD Music Video
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Yoko Takahashi's opening theme song "Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis" ("The Cruel Angel's Thesis") for the 1995 Neon Genesis Evangelion television anime has received an HD music video. King Records began streaming the video on Wednesday to mark the release of Takahashi's "Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis/Tamashii no Refrain" double A-side maxi single, which also shipped on Wednesday.
Animator Masayuki, who has served various staff roles in all Evangelion anime series and films, directed the music video. Using a 2003 music video as its base, the new music video features re-edited HD footage of the 1995 anime. The new Evangelion films' Studio Khara produced the video.
In addition to "Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis" ("The Cruel Angel's Thesis"), the single CD features the Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth ending theme song "Tamashii no Refrain" ("Soul's Refrain"). The release features special jacket art illustrated by Masayuki. The illustration shows Evangelion Unit-01 with images of Angels on its armor.
To mark the single's release, Takahashi will have an "Evangelion World Tour," which will include performances at events in France, Hong Kong, and other countries and territories. The tour will begin at Evangelion Store Tokyo-01 in the P'Parco store in Ikebukuro on June 30. The event will include a mini concert performed by Takahashi, screening of the music video, talk segment, and games.
