posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Akemi Takada has provided character designs for anime such as Magical Angel Creamy Mami, Urusei Yatsura, Patlabor The Mobile Police, and Kimagure Orange Road. In honor of the 40th anniversary of her career, a special art exhibition held at Tokyu Department Store Kichijōji in Tokyo will honor Takada's work.
The exhibit, titled "Takada Akemi Exhibition: Angelic Moment -anniversary-," will focus on Magical Angel Creamy Mami, which is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its television debut this year. Additionally, the exhibition will display genga of anime works such as Urusei Yatsura, as well as original illustrations. A shop will offer reproduction art prints and specially drawn genga and also offer exclusive merchandise. The first 100 people who spend at least 3,000 yen (about US$27) on relevant merchandise will receive a ticket for a signing event on June 30.
A Magical Angel Creamy Mami screening and talk event will be held on July 1 to mark the anniversary of the broadcast debut of the anime's first episode. The event will screen the anime's first and final episodes, and Studio Pierrot founder Yūji Nunokawa will appear with Takada. The pair will discuss secrets of the production for about 40 minutes. Admission to the event will cost 3,000 yen (about US$27), and Vision8 Online Store will begin offering tickets on June 9. All 200 attendees will receive an exclusive reproduction signed paper board, clear file, and glasses cleaning cloth.
The exhibit will run from June 28 to July 4, and admission will cost 800 yen (about US$7).
