Shinji Namesake Clam Soup Gets Evangelion Makeover
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
I really thought I'd seen it all when it comes to Evangelion merchandise. Whether it was transforming bullet trains or expensive fishing gear, I thought every stone was turned in the "weird Eva merchandise" racket. Never underestimate Evangelion, though.
There's a brand of soup that shares its name with Shinji Ikari. This means, of course, that the soup needs special collaborative packaging featuring Shinji. Thems the rules, I don't make them, I just report them. So what is "Shijimi Soup of Lake Shinji?" It's a miso broth with clams from Lake Shinji near Matsue in Shimane prefecture and it's ready to eat.
The product is yet another special collaboration to celebrate the ongoing Evangelion Art Exhibition at the Shimane Art Museum. The Museum produced the soup and is selling it at the facility and online until July 9. The item was a hit after word spread over social networks, leading the Shimane Art Museum to double production.
Other tourist attractions are also taking notice of the exhibition. The Matsue Vogel Park penguins are dressing up as Eva characters until July 9, the final day of the exhibition.
