Pacific Rim: Uprising Devastates Tokyo in Japan-Exclusive Poster
posted on by Bayleigh Baker
Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures debuted an original Japanese poster for director Steven S. DeKnight's Pacific Rim: Uprising sequel film on February 28. The poster features a damaged Gipsy Danger kneeling amidst wrecked buildings in the light of a Tokyo morning. Tokyo Tower is visible in the background.
This Japan-exclusive poster was created out of respect for Japan's beloved monster movie genre, making Tokyo a perfect fit for the setting of the climax of the film.
Japanese entertainment news website Cinema Today previously streamed two Japan-specific trailers. The trailer released in December featured interviews with the cast, including John Boyega, Steven S. DeKnight, and Rinko Kikuchi, who says that it is an honor to return to her role from the first film. The trailer released in February previewed a new Kaiju attack.
The film will open on March 23 in the United States after a delay, and will open on April 13 in Japan.
In the film, Mako (played by Rinko Kikuchi) will be commanding a new generation of young pilots. She will serve as protector to the new protagonist Jake Pentecost (played by Star Wars: The Force Awakens' John Boyega), the estranged son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost character from the first Pacific Rim film. Gipsy Avenger is piloted by Jake Pentecost and Nate Lambert (Scott Eastwood), another new protagonist.
