Shinkai Reveals Cameo of The Garden of Words' Takao in your name.

Makoto Shinkai's your name. film made its television debut on Wednesday. In addition to editing an exclusive version of the ending credits for the broadcast, Shinkai revealed another surprise for fans of his works.

Shortly before the broadcast, Shinkai issued a challenge to hardcore fans to find The Garden of Words' protagonist Takao in your name. Fans already knew that Yukino from Shinkai's 2013 film appears in your name., but Shinkai had not previously revealed that Takao appears. Shinkai noted that Takao appears in a single cut. Because of the difficulty of the challenge, Shinkai encouraged fans not to take it too seriously.
After the broadcast, Shinkai revealed the answer in another Tweet. The glimpse of Takao appears near the end of the film.

Mone Kamishiraishi, who voiced Mitsuha in your name., also narrated a special promotional spot for the broadcast. The spot featured an alternate version of Mitsuha's lines from the film.
The film has opened in 92 countries and territories, earned numerous accolades, and broken various theatrical screening records in Asia. The anime opened in Japan in August 2016 and has since become the highest-grossing anime film of all time globally. In Japan, the film became the fourth highest-grossing film of all time, the second highest-grossing Japanese film, and the second highest-grossing anime film.
A live-action Hollywood adaptation of the film by Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions is in the works. Eric Heisserer (Arrival, Final Destination 5) is penning the script.
