Cosplayers Clean-Up Ikebukuro during Animate Girls Fest
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
While Halloween partiers were trashing Shibuya, cosplayers at the Animate Girls Festival signed up to beauty Ikebukuro. On November 4, cosplayers walked the area's streets for the third clean-up event. The group included Rainbow Rocket team members, Jack Skellington, Love Live! idols, and more marching in organized rows and picking up garbage in the shopping district.
Participants were rewarded for their efforts with 500 yen Animate and ACOS gift certificates.
It's always great to see a counterpoint to negative news. The Environment Protection Division's Shibuya branch is attempting to overcome Shibuya Halloween's garbage problem. This year he and volunteers organized temporary changing facilities, more bathrooms, and garbage disposal areas to try to combat the overwhelming litter. Despite efforts, pictures circulated on social media of an astounding amount of trash left in the streets to be cleaned up the next day.
