Fairy Tail Creator Hiro Mashima Appears on Shinya Arino's Variety Show
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Fairy Tail manga creator Hiro Mashima appeared as a guest on the first episode of comedian and television personality Shinya Arino's Ari Chat variety program on Friday. The episode debuted on the Fuji TV On Demand (FOD) service, and it will be available to view until October 13.
Mashima and Arino have a casual conversation in the episode, discussing Fairy Tail and other topics. Two of Mashima's assistants from the serialization of his manga also appear on the program to provide a glimpse into the usual workplace atmosphere for Fairy Tail. Mashima and Arino also discuss the conclusion of the series and Mashima's upcoming work.
Arino originally hosted the "Ari Chat w" segment as part of the Manga wa Sekai wo Sukū! (Manga Saves the World!) variety program, which he and voice actress Sayaka Kanda began hosting in 2016. The segment was renewed as its own variety program.
Mashima launched Fairy Tail in 2006, and the final chapter debuted in this year's 34th issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in July. Both Mashima and his staff celebrated the manga's conclusion.
Although the manga has ended, Mashima's work on the franchise is not done. Preparations are underway for the "final season" of the television anime that will premiere in 2018.
Mashima is scheduled to appear at New York Comic Con, which will be held from October 5-8 at the Javits Center. The Japan Society will host Mashima for a special talk on October 5 before his planned NYCC appearance.
