Butler Glasses Shop Offers Fate/stay night Saber, Archer Specs
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Ikebukuro, home of butler cafes and the female-oriented Otome Road district, has a shop dedicated to visually impaired fans of Japanese popular culture. The Shitsuji Megane eyemirror (Butler Glasses eyemirror) shop opened in Ikebukuro in 2012, and it is only a one-minute walk away from the head branch of the otaku goods retailer Animate.
The inside of the shop is decorated like a Western-style house, and the shop's staff members are bespectacled butlers. Visitors can enjoy tea and sweets in a waiting room while they order their next pair of glasses. The shop offers a wide array of frames, including rare designs.
Of course, the shop offers brands that collaborate with works of anime and manga. The shop began selling collaboration eyewear in 2013 with Touhou Project-inspired spectacles. The store began having a company booth at the dōjin event Comic Market in 2016.
The shop revealed its Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works-themed glasses on Saturday. The Saber and Archer glasses will go on sale on March 25 for 14,000 yen (about US$123) each.
The company sign, known for its popular glasses brand Less than human, is producing the Saber under-rim eyeglasses. The hinges feature a design inspired by Saber's armor. Archer's pair of swords inspired the design of his glasses. The left temple of the glasses is red and black, and the right temple is glossy white. Both glasses come with original cases and cleaning cloths that feature images of Saber and Archer wearing glasses.
Other anime to inspire prescription glasses include Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Sword Art Online II.
