posted on by Amanda Ellard
Shinji Nishikawa, a manga artist and the designer behind Godzilla vs. Biollante in 1989 and Godzilla FINAL WARS in 2004, opened his first solo exhibition titled "Shinji Nishikawa Original Exhibition Godzilla Various Phases" on June 23 on the first floor basement of PARCO GALLERY X in Shibuya. The exhibition features 100 pieces of artwork, including 50 new pieces of Godzilla and other monsters.
The artwork is potentially available for purchase along with goods and art books. Included also in the exhibit are scripts and rough sketches from the Godzilla film series. Fans of Nishikawa can enjoy an autograph session and live drawing during the event.
Nishikawa comments:
This 'Shinji Nishikawa Original Exhibition Godzilla Various Phases' at Shibuya Park's GALLERY X is my first solo exhibition. I'll be in your care! I also drew 'Shin Godzilla' and it turned out to be very elaborate. Please visit it at the gallery. It's an honor to be able to have my 'Godzilla' illustrations in the collection. By all means, thank you very much."
The company Moby Dick c will also start a campaign on the crowdfunding site BOOSTER to raise money for the production of a Shinji Nishikawa art book collecting his Godzilla-based work. The crowd fundraising started June 23 and will run through August 21, with the hopes of meeting its goal of 2,000,000 yen (about US$19,568). Contributor rewards vary from an art book or calendar to an autograph by a requested artist or an illustrated cover for the art book.
