Would you dare eat a cake shaped like a deep-sea dwelling organism? Shokotan certainly would.

The Gurren Lagann singer recently tweeted about a specialty cake she ordered shaped like a shell-clad giant isopod. Her tweet states: "Got myself that rumored giant isopod cake! The color and shape are really similar, and even the tail looks the same! The cake is soft, and the raspberry on the inside is great! Can't wait to dig in!"
This strangely-shaped cake comes as part of Shibuya-based variety store TOKYU HANDS' special sea creature celebration event, Shibuya Ocean, which is currently seeing the sale of many sea creature themed goods. Internet response to the cake has been rather mixed; with an actual giant isopod already looking like a creepy-legged monster, some users have stated "You have to be pretty brave to eat that..." while others have commented "That looks pretty good!".
The cake was designed by Patisserie Swallowtail, a Japanese bakery often associated with creating sweets based on various anime and video games. Along with the isopod, the bakery has also created cakes shaped like a northern rockhopper penguin, a yadokari crab and a sea slug.
Cakes range from 500 to 700 yen (US$4-5) and will be sold until the event's conclusion on August 17.
Patisserie Swallowtail has also collaborated with anime such as Yuri Kuma Arashi and Dangan Ronpa to create sweets.
