UVERworld Performs Yamato 2199's New Opening Song

Sony Music Entertainment announced on Wednesday that UVERworld's new single, "Fight For Liberty," will be the second opening for the ongoing Space Battleship Yamato 2199 television anime. The opening will start playing in episode 16, which will air next Sunday. The rock band's lead vocalist, TAKUYA∞, expressed his concerns regarding the pressure for doing the opening for such a famous anime. However, he wants everyone to look forward to the new opening which was written with the series in mind.
Besides this new theme song, the band also contribute theme songs to Blue Exorcist, Bleach, Blood+, D.Gray-man, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and Toward the Terra.
In February, it was announced that Isao Sasaki (Galaxy Express 999, original Space Battleship Yamato) would reprise his role for the first opening single. He collaborated with well known groups and singers such as Hironobu Kageyama (Dragon Ball Z, Saint Seiya), his JAM Project group (Cardfight!! Vanguard, Bakuman.), and Shōko Nakagawa ("Shokotan," Beelzebub, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) to redo the classic opening. The series premiered on television in Japan in April with the "Uchū Senkan Yamato" opening theme by this "dream team" nicknamed "Yamato All-Stars."
