posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
A Puella Magi Madoka Magica-themed orchestral concert will be held at the Ichō Hall at the Hachioji City Art & Cultural Hall in Tokyo on April 6. A symphony of approximately 70 amateur musicians under the name "Walpurgis Night/Die Walpurgisnacht Symphoniker" will perform the concert.
The orchestra is not directly affiliated with the anime series, but it has received consent for the concert from Sony Music Publishing, and is complying with Nitroplus' derivative work guidelines as well as all Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) formalities.
The "Walpurgis no Yoru no Yume" (The Dream of the Walpurgis Night) concert will feature 15 songs from the television anime series, including the theme songs for all five main characters, which have been arranged for the orchestra.
Tickets to the concert will be free, and will be given out starting at 10:00 a.m. on the day of the concert. The concert itself will start at 5:30 p.m. Kenichi Shimura will conduct the orchestra and MIZ will be the concert mistress. Shimura in the past has conducted for the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Saint Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, and Tokyo New City Orchestra.
