Japan's Anime, Manga, Game Creators Celebrate April Fool's Day: Part II

It was April 1 in Japan, and the anime, manga, and software creators marked the occasion with a slew of April Fool's spoofs and jokes. Here are some of those that have cropped up this year — click on the thumbnail images to see the original!

Akihabara Backstage Pass

Akihabara Backstage Pass, the "idol training café" founded by Morning Musume producer Tsunku and 5pb. (Steins;Gate) founder Chiyomaru Shikura, announced that a television anime adaptation (abbreviated BakuSute or B.S.) has been green-lit for a January 9, 2013 premiere on the "•S" network. It is also getting a Windows game later this month.

Bleach

Manga character Rukia is selling off handmade 13th Division rabbits, complete with signed certificates of authenticity and interchangeable clothes for the different members of the 13th Division, on Yahoo! Auctions. The auctions run on April 1.

Cardfight!! Vanguard

The official website revealed Chō Jigen Robo Daiyūsha (Super Dimensional Robot Daiyūsha), a television anime series that is already running on Sunday mornings. The story follows three high school kids who use Daiyūsha, an "envoy of justice" from a distant dimension, to rescue Earth.

Chaos Code

Game developer F K Digital announced Chaos Code: The S.T. Mission:
  • Release date: We're not selling it!
  • Genre: Gothic Lolita-style side-scrolling shooting
  • Price: Very cheap! (tax included)
  • Number of players: 1 (2-12 online)
  • Platform: To be determined

Crayon Shin-chan

The 20th-anniversary Crayon Shin-chan movie, Crayon Shin-chan: Arashi o Yobu! Ora to Uchū no Princess, is inspiring a Nintendo 3DS game titled Masao Kart: Himawari-Hime o Kyūshutsu Seyo! (Masao Kart: Rescue Princess Himawari!)

Crunchyroll

Media service Crunchyroll announced the latest platform for its streaming videos: the Nintendo Game Boy.

Eiga.com

Movie news website Eiga.com ended its Japanese-language service and switched over to Chinese.

Gintama

The manga's Sadaharu is getting his own Hollywood movie: Sada -Kyodai na Inu– (Sada -The Giant Dog-).

The IDOLM@STER

The IDOLM@STER web site revealed that the anime-in-anime Endless Combine Kisaragi already has a hit film version from "B-1 Pictures" in theaters.

Irem

Japanese video game publisher Irem is running a "Pachinko Professional School" including guidelines for incoming students and a class schedule for the year 20XX.
