Yoko Kanno, Motohiro Hata Team Up for Kids on the Slope Song
posted on by Egan Loo
Soundtrack composer Yōko Kanno (Macross Plus/Frontier, Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and singer Motohiro Hata are teaming up to make the ending theme song "Altair" for next month's Kids on the Slope (Sakamichi no Apollon) anime series. Hata wrote the melancholy lyrics for the "medium ballad," while Kanno composed the music.
Hata also sang songs for two other manga-based anime series: Itazura na Kiss and Naruto Shippūden. Kanno is producing the rest of the soundtrack for Sakamichi no Apollon, which is being directed by Cowboy Bebop director Shinichirō Watanabe.
The ending theme's CD single will go on sale on May 30, and a limited first pressing will bundle a DVD with the music video. Former Judy and Mary vocalist YUKI wrote and sang the lyrics for the opening theme song "Sakamichi no Melody," which Kanno scored.
The Sakamichi no Apollon anime adapts Yūki Kodama's manga of the same name. In the coming-of-age story of "love, friendship, and music," two boys and their friends share a passion for jazz in a provincial town in the late 1960s. The manga won the General Category in this year's Shogakukan Manga Awards.
