Composer Joe Hisaishi to Personally Conduct Asian Tour
posted on by Egan Loo
Joe Hisaishi, the 49-year-old composer of every Studio Ghibli film that Hayao Miyazaki directed, will launch an Asian concert tour on November 5. He will personally conduct the live orchestras at Taiwan's Kaohsiung and Taipei; China's Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Shanghai; and Japan's Tokyo and Osaka.
Hisaishi emphasized to Sankei News that the concerts will cover not just his movie soundtracks, but all of his works. He held his first Asian tour in 2006, and tickets quickly sold out. Tickets are already on sale for some of this year's concerts.
The musical program for the tour is still not set in stone, but it will include music from his October 27 album Melodyphony and last year's Minimalism. Melodyphony will feature nine songs, including a rearrangement of the ending theme song from Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro film.
The concert tour will end at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space hall on December 27 and at The Symphony Hall in Osaka on December 31.
