Sword Art Online Novels Get Manga About Aincrad Arc

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Manga will portray scenes in novels not shown in anime

The November issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine revealed on Monday that Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online light novels are inspiring a new manga adaptation that will launch in the magazine's next issue on October 27. The magazine notes that the story will be a "rearrangement" of the novels' Aincrad story arc, and will feature scenes not shown in the anime, such as the meeting with Kopel. While the premise is similar to the concept of the Sword Art Online: Progressive novels, the magazine only notes that the manga is based on the original Sword Art Online novels. KIMI is drawing the manga.

Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online: Progressive novels began in 2012 as a revised retelling of Kawahara's original Sword Art Online novels. The story depicts Kirito's journey through the floating Aincrad castle from the beginning, floor-by-floor. Yen Press is publishing the Sword Art Online: Progressive novel series in English, as well as two manga adaptations.

Sword Art Online: Progressive is inspiring an anime film adaptation titled Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night. The film will open in Japan on October 30.

Update: The manga is titled Sword Art Online Re:Aincrad. Source: Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh December issue
