posted on by Kim Morrissy
The animated commercial for McDonald's Japan's gratin croquette burger debuted on television on Tuesday. McDonald's Japan also posted both the 15-second and 30-second versions of the ad on YouTube.
Animation production company G-angle (Hakata Mentai! Pirikarako-chan) posted the credits for the ad on its website. The ad was storyboarded and directed by Yoshihiro Kanno (Hunter × Hunter animation director, Sword Art Online: Alicization action animation director). The character designer and animation director is Kumiko Takayanagi (Unlimited Psychic Squad, Samurai Flamenco animation director).
The ad tells the story of three girls in a high school lacrosse club who make a ritual out of eating the gratin croquette burger in winter. The ad stars actress Atsuko Maeda and voice actresses Ayana Taketatsu (Oreimo, K-ON!) and Aimi (BanG Dream!). McDonald's Japan posted a "Making Movie" showing the actresses at the recording booth singing the ad's theme song.
Studio Colorido (Taifū no Noruda, Penguin Highway) previously produced a "Mirai no Watashi" (The Future Me) campaign anime short for McDonald's restaurants.
