In the final episode of the series, a large star marks the current position of some of the characters in the sky. Its shape, a cross made of light, is somewhat comparable to the similar cross-shaped explosions featured in another Gainax series, Neon Genesis Evangelion. This makes sense, given Kono Minikuku mo Utsukushii Sekai's status as Gainax's 20th Anniversary series.
The star mentioned in the trivia above is also shown in episode two of the original Gunbuster (1988)
In the english credits, Mari Nishino's voice actress is listed as "Tabitha Hickey" instead of Luci Christian (who it clearly is)
From the staff of GAINAX's TV anime Mahoromatic. Mahoro's maid uniform actually makes an appearance in Episode 2.
In Episode 2, they make a reference to Onegai Teacher.
In Episode 2, they make also a reference to Urusei Yatsura, right before Onegai Teacher.
In Episode 2 various female cosplay costumes are displayed across the screen. One is mentioned at the top. Others could be DiGi Charat and Inuyasha.
